National Abused Women and Children’s Awareness Day

Sunday served as National Abused Women and Children’s Awareness Day.

According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence,  one in every four women will experience domestic abuse in her lifetime; with females who are twenty to twenty four years of age at the greatest risk.

Childhelp.org claims there are more than three million reports of child abuse made in the U.S. involving more than six million children a year.

This day is reserved to address those alarming numbers and provide help to those who may need it.

There are several centers here on the shore that provide help to victims of abuse. For example, the Life Crisis Center in Salisbury (410-749-4357), the SAFE Program at People’s Place II (302-422-8058), and Delaware Coalition Against Domestic Violence in Delaware (800-701-0456).
