Sen. Angela Alsobrooks visits Eastern Shore to talk policy, economic growth
WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. – U.S. Senator Angela Alsobrooks made an appearance on the shore to talk about issues like the offshore wind project in Ocean City, and economic development.
Executive director of the Greater Ocean City area chamber of commerce, Amy Thompson is happy she had the opportunity to give Sen. Alsobrooks insight on opinions surrounding offshore wind.
“I’m not sure on how much she does or doesn’t know about our local perspective on offshore wind. Any time you have county government, town of Ocean City government, and the business community and commercial fisherman all in agreement on something, that’s kind of a rare thing,” said Thompson.
Meanwhile, Sen. Alsobrooks said she plans to take the feedback and apply it at the federal level, to come up with a balanced solution that meets the needs of folks on both sides of the aisle.
“I like what was suggested here in the room. Why don’t we come together, bring all of the stakeholders together; I talked to some of the participants who said let’s come together, sit around a table and decide what is in Maryland’s interests,” said Sen. Alsobrooks.
As she inches closer to completing her first term serving as senator, Alsobrooks said she intends to work closely with leaders on the shore to tackle some of our most pressing issues.
“They can expect that I will be a presence here, a steady presence, as we work through so many of the challenges of this time,” said Sen. Alsobrooks. “I understand the concerns of people who don’t feel heard or seen, because there’s a lot of suffering happening right now.”
And Thompson said she’s also excited to get to work.
“That willingness to say, ‘I don’t know everything’ is huge. I mean, that’s what you want in your elected officials,” said Thompson.
