HEBRON, Md. - After receiving word of the devastation in Haiti, "the Uprising" church in Hebron waited anxiously to hear from Tom and Bev Brumbley, a couple originally from Salisbury, who have set up schools in Haiti for almost 1,000 children.
Finally, word came. They were safe, but the schools were not.
So Pastor Bill Cropper and others sprung into action. He said, "How can we sit back and do nothing when we know of a family that we have connections with that are indirectly responsible for 900 or more children in Haiti? What can we do to help right here?"
Then, he thought of the strong community on the Eastern Shore, and they have issued a call.
The Brumbleys has released a list of items they need, and residents can drop off those supplies at trailers in nine different locations.
But their short-term goal of delivering 100,000 pounds of supplies is just the beginning.
"Our long-term goal through our website and through donations is to raise a half a million dollars to rebuild," said Cropper. "We can actually put our hands on something right here, and say we're helping an immediate need in Haiti."

They also need volunteers to man the drop-off sites.
EDIT: The church has retracted their statement about endorsed by the Red Cross. The local Red Cross is referring anyone wishing to donate supplies to the relief effort to drop them off at the sites for the "Brumbley Haiti Relief Fund."
