BETHANY BEACH, Del. - Parts of the Delaware beaches beaten down by last year's storms are getting federal help.

More than $8 million will be given to repair the Bethany Beach and South Bethany coastlines.

The state's legislators had fought for the funds, saying that every $1 spent on beach replenishment would lead to $320 in tax revenue for the federal government. Senators Tom Carper, Ted Kaufman and Congressman Mike Castle sent a letter earlier this month, requesting for funding in the Flood Control and Coastal Emergencies account for federally authorized beach projects damaged last fall.

The date to begin work has not been finalized but will not begin before October 2010.
